Jesús Navas González (born in Los Palacios, Seville on November 21, 1985) is a Spanish footballer. He currently plays for La Liga club Sevilla FC. His brother Marcos is also a footballer.
Navas joined the Sevilla 'B' team in 2002 when he was just sixteen years old. He played six times for the 'B' team in the 2002/03 season without scoring. Next season he made more of an impression on the club, once again in the 'B' team, but this time playing twenty-two games and scoring three. He looked a very promising player especially for his young age and at the end of the season he was promoted to the first team, and made five appearances as the season drew to a close.
Navas in training.In the 2004/05 season, Navas was once again placed in the 'B' team to gain more experience. However, he made just four appearances before the first team coach decided he had become too good for the Sevilla 'B' team and would require his services in the first team. He was given twenty-three La Liga appearances that season and scored twice.
On 4 May 2005 Navas' good performances were rewarded with a new contract that would see him at the club until 2010. Navas' performances in La Liga were also recognised by the Spanish national team, as Navas was called up to play for the Spain-under-21s.
In the 2005/06 season, Navas once again impressed as he played in thirty-five games for the club, scoring two goals. As well as this he played in eleven games in the UEFA Cup and made a major contribution to the team winning the competition in a 4-0 win over Middlesbrough F.C. in the final. After the UEFA Cup win, Navas was thought to have interested other clubs into buying him and reports in England said that Arsenal were lining up a move for him, despite his long-term contract to Sevilla.
Navas suffers from chronic homesickness, to the extent that he has walked out of training camps within Spain because they were too far away from Seville. He also suffers from anxiety attacks and seizures. Recently, Navas refused to travel with Sevilla to during pre-season to the United States due to his acute homesickness, later deciding that he will travel in a bid to rid himself of this condition.
