Diego Milito![]() ![]() Diego Milito He is Argentinian professional forward football player. He is currently playing in Spanish first division. Diego Alberto Milito (born June 12, 1979 in Bernal, Buenos Aires) is an Argentine professional football forward, currently playing at Real Zaragoza of the Spanish first division. Diego started playing at Argentine first division Racing Club in 1999, where he would win the 2001 Apertura tournament. At the beginning of 2005 he moved to Italian second division Genoa. After two very successful season, where he scored 33 goals in 59 matches in Italy, Diego Milito transferred to his current club Real Zaragoza. Also in Spain Diego showed his potential. He scored 4 goals in the first semi-final of the 2006 Copa del Rey to beat Real Madrid 6-1. He finished the season as Real Zaragoza top scorer with 15 goals in the Spanish first division. Diego currently plays at Real Zaragoza, the club at which he played for two consecutive seasons with his younger brother Gabriel Milito between 2005 and 2007. However, during the early stages of his career Argentina, he played for Racing Club, while his brother Gabriel Milito played for Racing Club main rival, Independiente. Milito is one of the top scorer's in La Liga this season. He scored 25 goals, just one less then the top goalscorer Ruud van Nistelrooy. His goals have helped Zaragoza to finish the league as the sixth. Diego was given his international debut one month after signing for Zaragoza in September 2005. It wasn't until the beginning of the 2006-7 season that Milito became first choice for his national side. Milito was given the nod for first team action against Brazil in September 2006 where he scored a diving header. Diego is a complete forward, compared by many to have similar attributes to countryman Gabriel Batistuta and Italy's Luca Toni. Milito is powerful with a keen eye for goal, and is regarded as one of the finest headers of the ball in the modern game. On 17 June 2007, many British Press outlets reported that Liverpool FC had opened talks with Milito, following rumours that he was a target for Rafa Benitez, who had previously wanted to sign his brother for the club, however Benitez claimed recently that he is not fast enough for the Premier League. He played for Argentina in the Copa América 2007.
