Daniel George Niculae (born October 6, 1982 in Bucharest, Romania) is a football striker who currently plays for AJ Auxerre. Daniel "Nico" Niculae, started his professional career at Rapid Bucureşti in 2000. Despite a period playing for the B team in 2001, Nico proved he is one of most gifted players of the club. In the 2005-2006 UEFA Cup, he and Mugurel Buga formed one of the most powerful striker pairs of the competition. He immediately caught the attention of such clubs as Hamburger SV, Internazionale Milano and AJ Auxerre. He was transferred to AJ Auxerre in the summer of 2006, for 3.3 million Euros.
Niculae has also scored 2 goal in 13 games for Romania's national team, although he is not yet a regular.
